KYOCERA 7135
My Palm Pilot Wireless Phone

Kyocera 7135Ok, so we're all still used to calling them cell phones, but the technology has changed.  We're supposed to call them wireless phones now.  That's going to be a tough transition for me.  But here it is, my new Palm Pilot wireless phone, the Kyocera 7135

I never knew how much I'd adapt to the idea of using a Palm Pilot, so I bought one on EBAY for cheap, just to experiment with.  As it turns out, my job takes me on the road a lot, and it was handy to have my customer details with me.  The scheduler also helped me keep track of appointments I'd previously often missed.  I liked it, but I also hated forgetting the Palm Pilot behind.  In 2002, Bell Mobility (my cell carrier) released a rather bulky Palm Pilot phone, and I bought it.  I loved it. As is often the case with gadgets I buy, it was only 3 weeks before Kyocera announced their new improved colour version with double the memory and other great enhancements.  I waited the 2 year delay for it to come to Canada - and now I'm the proud owner of this phone.  I expect the new release next version to be announced any day.

SOFTWARE I LIKE
MILLYKEYS http://millikeys.sourceforge.net/

If you own a Palm Pilot (or clone) You NEED this tool!   It gives you an ALWAYS ON keyboard template to stick over the Graffiti base,  I used to buy a product called SILKYBOARD but they went out of business a few years back.

After reading an article in the forums at http://www.smartphonesource.com/ (also now gone), I found a new favourite. Although Millikeys isn't created with a professional company backing it and it doesn't come with a box, and a manual, I have to admit - I love it even more than SILKYBOARD. This application is free, but I strongly recommend sending the author some cash anyway. You would have shelled out $39.95 for Silkyboard.  I love this tool.

Download Millikeys 5-Line Layout

The 5 Line Layout Mod. (link)

Written by Scott Purkey (dartagnan@sc.rr.com) , an Engineer in Summerville SC that uses his Palm for everything.  Like me, he sucks at the Graffiti and fell in love with the Silkyboard on his 6035 and was pissed when they did not have it for the 7135.  With some creative thought and a lot of fiddling, he has come up with a more universal keyboard layout using Millikeys (above).  I like it better than Silkyboard.  It's made using my 7135 a joy.

MAPOPOLIS  http://www.mapopolis.com

I'm a big fan of the maps and the technical support this company offers.  It's fun having street maps in my Palm Pilot cell phone. Canadian cities are fully supported.

PALM / PHONE LINKS

Sadly, the 7135 isn't a "current" model in the world anymore, so a lot of my favourite links and sites have vanished.  If you know of a great 7135 site or product, let me know. I'd be happy to link to you.
